ONE YEAR IN OAK CLIFF

It’s hard to believe, but this November marks ONE WHOLE YEAR being out of downtown. We haven’t really talked about it too much here on the blog, but the decision to leave downtown was pretty spontaneous. Up until the week before we started “just looking” at houses, we hadn’t ever really planned to leave. The stars must’ve just aligned one day and it was time to go.

That said, one thing you probably know about us is how hard we rode for downtown. So it was very important to us to move somewhere we loved and could be proud of.

Enter: Oak Cliff

Oak Cliff has long been one of our favorite neighborhoods in Dallas, so we feel incredibly lucky to have landed here among some of our favorite people and places. And the beautiful thing is, the two overlap quite often.

So we want to share with you some of OUR favorite spots in Oak Cliff.

This isn’t meant to be a “neighborhood guide” or anything like that— just a few places that are near and dear to our heart.

QUATRO Y 20

Run by our super-talented friends Javier and Belinda, Quatro y 20 is home to Dallas Denim Repair and Faces Optica.

It’s really hard to visit this thoughtfully designed space without leaving with a pair of beautiful glasses or some vintage denim. It seems that almost every time we compliment one of our friends’ new glasses they say “yeah I got these from Javier and Belinda”. And on top of being such a hot spot, the couple has really worked hard to create an atmosphere that feels elevated and designed, while feeling friendly and familiar.

TRIBAL ALL DAY CAFE

Swing by Tribal any given afternoon and chances are you’ll see us there. And if you don’t, surely you’ll see someone we know. Or perhaps someone you know. That’s the thing about Tribal— they’ve done such an incredible job of both intentionally and organically creating an environment that breeds genuine community, healthy energy, and beautiful vibes all around. The fact that the food is both guilt free and delicious… Well, that’s the “icing” on the cake.

GOOD CYCLE

It takes guts to open up a shop of your own. It takes even more to do so in the middle of a global pandemic. But that’s exactly what our friend Nikayla has got plenty of. Together with her husband Keenan, she runs Good Cycle— one of our absolute favorite places to shop in Dallas. The store is filled with a variety of pieces while also offering curated selections of things like vintage Levi’s and Coogi sweaters.

TINY VICTORIES

“The spot”. “The neighborhood bar”. “The turn up”.

Our favorite.

‘Tiny’ has become all of these things and more. This is the bar we bring friends from out of town to visit, this is the night cap stop. I mean, this is the first spot we hit to celebrate the day we closed on our house.

Everything from the drinks and the music, to the hugs from the staff make this bar feel like home.

COFFEE

You know us— one of the things we cherish most is a weekend visit to a coffee shop. And while we may not have THAT ONE coffee shop mainstay in Oak Cliff, we’ve enjoyed the variety of shops that are a quick Vespa-ride away. So whether it’s a clutch drip to-go from Wayward, an iced ANYTHING from Hola, or a slow cortado from La Reunion, we’ve got everything we need and then some.
